Simulating the Effect of Light Rail on Urban Growth in Phoenix: An Application of the UrbanSim Modeling Environment

چکیده
THE task of planning urban land-use and transportation systems has become more challenging in the face of an increasing set of dynamic influences on the behavior of households and businesses. The integration of the global economy, leading to both a quantitative and qualitative change in flows of information, capital, people, and goods, has, in part, led to a realignment of land uses. While some traditional industries have become de-centered within the urban context, other forms of economic activities are leading to re-centering around new nodes. On one hand, increasing affluence among many households has increased demand for land for housing and caused a dispersion of households farther away from the center. On the other hand, however, households that are being marginalized by globalizing processes are finding more segregated quarters and a limited ability to access urban amenities. In Phoenix, Arizona such processes are evident in the continued development of large, master-planned communities at the periphery, together with the movement of jobs to new employment clusters along major transportation corridors. At the same time, downtown Phoenix is also receiving significant attention as the location for a new campus

A Technical Modeler's Interface for UrbanSim, a System for Integrated. Land Use, Transportation, and Environmental Modeling
Patterns of land use and available transportation systems play a critical role in determining the economic vitality, livability, and sustainability of urban areas. Transportation interacts strongly with land use. For example, automobile-oriented development induces demand for more roads and parking (which in turn induces more automobile-oriented development), while compact, pedestrian-friendly ...
متن کاملIntegrated Land Use, Transportation and Environmental Simulation: UrbanSim
The process of planning and constructing a new light rail system or freeway, setting an urban growth boundary, changing tax policy, or modifying zoning and land use plans is often politically charged. Our goal in the UrbanSim project is to provide tools for planners and stakeholders to be able to consider different scenarios — packages of possible policies and investments — and then, based on t...

High speed intercity passenger rail is an inherently strong railway application. It operates over 250 km/hour. For perspective, high-speed represents the ultimate development of preexisting standard gauge infrastructure. Network of high-speed passenger rail lines aimed at reducing accident, reducing traffic congestion, air pollution cutting national dependence on foreign oil and improving rural...

Transformation of land use-land cover change occurs due to the numbers and activities of people. Urban growth modeling has attracted authentic attention because it helps to comprehend the mechanisms of land use change and thus helps relevant policies made. This study applied logistic regression to model urban growth in the Ahvaz Metropolitan Area of Khuzestan province in IDRISI Selva software a...
